Ongoing strategic counsel

Keep important decisions under independent scrutiny.

Strategy changes as markets move, assumptions weaken, and new choices arise. Retainer Advisory gives a CEO and leadership team a consistent outside perspective with enough context to challenge the next decision, notice strategic drift, and keep resources tied to agreed priorities.

When to engage

Advisory fits when consequential decisions recur, when the leadership team needs an independent counterpart, or when a recently agreed direction must be tested against changing evidence. It can follow a Koan Audit or GTM engagement, or begin directly with deliberate onboarding to establish context.

What the work involves

We agree a recurring decision forum, the information to review, the people involved, and the priority matters within scope. The work may include testing major assumptions and options, reviewing a small set of meaningful measures, examining resource choices, and preparing for defined leadership or board decisions. Board participation happens only by invitation and agreement.

For time-sensitive strategic matters, the engagement can include a defined response process. Communication channels, response windows, and available capacity are set out in the agreement.

Decisions and outputs

Depending on scope, the relationship may maintain a record of major decisions and assumptions, review strategic priorities and measures, identify drift or emerging risks, and provide concise decision briefs for priority questions. Leadership retains ownership of every decision.

What may happen next

The relationship is reviewed against the decisions it is helping the client make. A discrete issue may call for a separately scoped project; a continuing need may support an agreed renewal or change in scope. Koanical’s management and strategy advice does not replace legal, audit, regulated financial, or other specialist advice.
